Envalis PolBESS
Monthly gross-revenue benchmark for a reference 1 MW battery storage asset on the Polish market. Two durations (2h / 4h) and three views of the same value: monthly (MGR), annualised (AGR) and trailing twelve months (TTM).
PolBESS · MGR / TTM
Left axis: MGR (Monthly Gross Revenue): gross revenue for a single month · tys. PLN/MW
Right axis: TTM (Trailing Twelve Months): revenue over the last 12 months, realised trend · tys. PLN/MW/rok
PolBESS · AGR
AGR (Annualised Gross Revenue): monthly result × 12, a single historical month annualised — not a forecast · tys. PLN/MW/rok
Methodology
PolBESS is a historical, monthly gross-revenue benchmark for a reference battery storage asset on the Polish market, computed with the proprietary Sentinel optimisation engine on actual market data under a uniform methodology. PolBESS is not a forecast, a project valuation or a revenue guarantee. It shows what a reference asset could have achieved in a given month under the index's fixed assumptions.

- grid fees, taxes, financing costs, O&M, aggregator fees and other project costs
- Result
- gross revenue
Reference asset
A standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) rated at 1 MW AC, in two durations: 2h and 4h. Usable AC capacity is the AC capacity available at the grid connection point.
Markets covered
PolBESS covers Day-Ahead arbitrage and the FCR and aFRR system services.
Average-MW approach
PolBESS uses an average-asset (average MW) approach. The share of power that can be placed in system services is constrained as installed storage capacity on the market grows. The more assets compete for limited system-service volumes, the smaller the share of power for the average asset. The result reflects real market competition, not the potential of a single asset acting as if it were alone on the market.
Decision method
PolBESS uses an imperfect-foresight approach. The model makes decisions based on information realistically available at decision time, without full knowledge of the future. Day-Ahead and D-1 capacity: full information. Rare Day-Ahead price spikes are excluded from decisions — the model does not assume perfectly hitting the extremes. aFRR activation: limited information, estimated from statistical history. The goal is not to reproduce the theoretical maximum (perfect foresight) or any specific aggregator's strategy, but a realistic, auditable value of storage flexibility under limited information. The result is settled on actual data after month close.

An index for your project
On request, we calculate the index for a specific asset, including hybrid PV+BESS configurations. A comparison of actual financial results against a credible reference point, with daily granularity, a full revenue breakdown, technical parameters tailored to the project and degradation cost included in the objective function.
| PolBESS | PolBESS (on request) | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | reference project | your specific project (standalone or PV+BESS hybrid with a generation profile) |
| Revenue | aggregated value | full revenue stack (Day-Ahead, FCR, aFRR) and contract structures (tolling, floor, PPA) |
| Granularity | monthly | daily |
| Method | realised result (imperfect foresight) | realised result plus theoretical ceiling (perfect foresight) |
| Parameters | standard | power, usable capacity, operating duration, SoH, availability, RTE, cycle limits, grid-connection constraints, curtailment profile, degradation cost and optimisation objective |
Important information
PolBESS is a historical reference benchmark prepared by Envalis based on actual market data, technical assumptions and a uniform index methodology. The index results are informational and analytical in nature.
Data sources. PolBESS is calculated using data obtained on an ongoing basis from www.pse.pl, as per the current state of that website, processed in part by Envalis.
PolBESS does not constitute a revenue forecast, a performance guarantee, a valuation of any specific project, an investment recommendation, a credit decision or a financing offer. The index is also not a legal, tax or technical opinion, nor due diligence of any specific asset.
Actual revenues of a storage asset may differ from the index values depending on technology, location, grid-connection terms, availability, degradation, operating costs, taxes, financing, the aggregator agreement, grid constraints and the individual asset-management strategy.
PolBESS results should be treated as a market reference point supporting analysis. They do not replace an individual technical, financial, legal, tax or investment analysis of a specific project.
Envalis may update the index methodology; material changes are documented together with their effective date.
